Promoting ecological health and economic advancement in Nicaragua through holistically managed regenerative agriculture
Problem Statement
Ecological Issues
Degraded soil, erosion and ecological health as a of tilling, chemical application, annual burning, and other extractive practices
Sociol/Economic Issues
Aging farmer population as younger generation disincentivized to enter agriculture sector
Soil degradation and increased chemical input costs reduce farm profitablity
Complex economic dynamics between farming regions and tourist hubs (locals can't afford tourist/expat prices)
Proposed Solution
Establish a holistically managed, regenerative demonstration farm to:
Provide agricultural education and outreach to promote and support regenerative practices
Conduct research and measure ecologica outcomes
Laund regenerative agriculture-based businesses with local participants
Step 1
Acquire land and establish an economically sustainable for-profit farm that will provide income and serve as a training ground for local farmers
Step 2
Partner with Savory Institute to establish the first Savory Hub at the demonstration farm
Step 3
Provide employment and educational opportunitites for graduates from a local agricultural university to learn and apply holistic management and regenerative practices
Step 4
Work with our participants to develop regenerative agriculture-based business models, and help raise startup capital
