Project Context
The project is located in southwest Nicaragua, between the towns of Rivas and San Juan del Sur. Tourism and foreign land investment in the area create complex economic dynamics, oftentimes disincentivizing participation in agriculture.
Savory Hub
Our proposed demonstration farm will be the first Savory Hub in Nicaragua. It will be holistically managed and economically sustainable regenerative farm, and will serve as a startup business incubator and a center for education and outreach.
Business Model
Money for the demonstration farm and Savory Hub is raised through Ponderosa Alliance, a US 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
Graduates from la Universidad Internacional Antonio de Valdivieso (UNIAV) will be selected to run the farm and earn an living, while learning and applying principles of regenerative agriculture and holistic management.
After 1-3 years on the farm, Alianza Ponderosa will work with our project participants to develop business plans, raise startup capital and launch regenerative agriculture-based businesses.
New UNIAV graduates will be selected and the process will continue.
